Expanded Open IO Available
The Open IO project has released an expanded range of environmental impact categories for the Open IO Lifecycle Dataset. This enlarged dataset provides life cycle inventory information for toxics, criteria pollutants, primary energy use, water consumption, and land use in addition to the previously included greenhouse gas emissions. The dataset is available in Excel output, as a SimaPro CSV file, and in its native Analytica format.
Open IO Visualization Available
The Open IO website now has a visualization tool available. Upon choosing a commodity and type of environmental impact category, a chart shows how various stages in the life cycle of the product contribute to the impact. At the moment, Climate Change and Water Consumption are the published impact categories. An excel spreadsheet with the raw data is also posted.
Open IO's First Extension
Christian Solli and his colleagues at MiSA have extended Open IO with their release of Klimakost - US Industry Carbon Footprints. It's a beautiful visualization of the direct and indirect GHG emissions from each sector in Open IO. The tool also breaks the share of emissions into Scope I, Scope II, and Scope III, which will surely appeal to folks experienced with the GHG Protocol.
